The Junior League of Houston, Inc.’s Sustaining Club is thrilled to announce the selection of June Elizabeth Milton Gray Stobaugh as the 2017 Adelaide Lovett Baker Award recipient. June passed away in March 2017, but her life was a testament to the dedication and leadership that exemplifies the spirit of the Junior League.

June has been described as a true servant leader who led by example and set the bar high. Committed to improving children’s intellectual well-being, June championed classroom education and inspired a love of libraries and the arts in young people. Her time was selflessly spent supporting organizations such as Bo’s Place, Children’s Museum of Houston, Houston Youth Symphony and Ballet, Neuhaus Education Center and Young Audiences of Houston, where she served as Executive Director. Other philanthropic interests included Houston Hospice, Rienzi Garden Endowment Fund, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Houston Grand Opera, the Garden Club of Houston and Friends of the Library at Wellesley College.

Her placements in the Junior League of Houston included President, Advisory Planning Chairman and Houston News Sheet Editor. June’s commitment to the community was only surpassed by her devotion to her family. She particularly treasured time with her grandchildren by sharing in activities they enjoyed and encouraging their love of reading.

June’s family will accept her award at the annual Adelaide Lovett Baker luncheon on Monday, October 16, 2017.
