DePelchin Children’s Center celebrates grand opening of the Junior League of Houston Volunteer Services Building

DePelchin Children’s Center has announced the grand opening of the new Junior League of Houston Volunteer Services Building which will quadruple DePelchin’s capacity to support more children and families in the Houston community.

In 2023, the Junior League of Houston awarded DePelchin $2,000,000 in honor of the League’s Centennial Anniversary – a testament to their longstanding partnership which spans over a century. After raising the remaining funds for construction through a capital campaign, DePelchin broke ground in May 2024.

The new 21,000 square foot facility, located next to DePelchin’s main office on Memorial Drive, features spacious classrooms for foster parent training and parent education classes, a children’s enrichment space, staff offices, and over 8,000 square feet of volunteer workspace and storage for in kind donations. The substantial increase in storage capacity for donations – ranging from school supplies and diapers to clothing and toys – will allow DePelchin to serve even more children and families and ensure they have access to the essentials they need to thrive.

On July 10, the grand opening hosted DePelchin’s Board of Directors, donors, and the Junior League of Houston and provided guided tours for a special first look into the new facility which was made possible because of their investments.

Temple Webber, III, Chair of DePelchin’s Board of Directors stated at the event, “Today, we celebrate the completion of a building that will support every program and service that DePelchin offers – now and for many decades to come. Most importantly, it will enhance the wellbeing of the children and families we serve – and through them, the wellbeing of our community. From the bottoms of our hearts, we thank you for your partnership in this achievement.”
