Houston’s Junior League and Target join forces for fun event aiding kids for Back to School

For many of us it feels like school has been in session for awhile, but reality is that it was just last week that it all began again and for some like my Harley, it started today. Whatever the case, Back-to-School is always a great time to reach out and aid all of the aspiring students out there that may need just a little assistance from their friends. In this case, the friends were 100 Junior League volunteers that were invited by Target Central to assist more than 100 children with back-to-school shopping in a private shopping excursion early in the morning before opening the store to the public on that busy Saturday morning before school started.

In true Back-to-School spirit, Junior League volunteers served as personal shoppers to help the children, who are in foster care, along with their guardians, select BTS clothing. The Children also received backpacked filled to the brim with school supplies to help them transition into the new school year. For many of these children it was the first time that they had ever shopped for new school clothes. Their joy and excitement shone through the entire experience that will aid tremendously in giving these kids a sense of confidence and pride on their first day of school.

For over 30 years, League members have worked with Child Advocates, Inc. in various capacities including volunteering and creating Life Books for these children in foster care….giving them a scrapbook of their lives.
