On April 29, 2021, the Junior League of Houston hosted its fourth and final panel discussion in a thought leader series that brought together nonprofit leaders, government officials and experts to share what is being done to navigate through this extraordinary year of ongoing crisis. Previous topics included basic needs, children’s mental health, and overcoming the digital divide in children’s education. In this panel, speakers explored what organizations are doing in Houston to address inequities in the community and what we as individuals can do to be allies in the fight for racial equity. The panel included Shannon Buggs, Director, Mayor’s Office of Complete Communities, Yvonne Harris, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Consultant, and Marvin Pierre, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Eight Million Stories. The panel was moderated by Roseann Rogers, former Buzz Lady for KPRC.
