The Junior League of Houston’s 2004 Charity Ball Commemorates Efforts to Build a Better Community

December 18, 2003

HOUSTON, TEXAS – An amazing adventure awaits those who attend The Junior League of Houston’s 2004 Charity Ball on Friday, February 20 and Saturday, February 21. (Saturday’s tickets are already sold out!) This year’s theme, “It’s A Jungle Out There…,” promises to be an unforgettable adventure to remember! The event will be held in the Junior League Ballroom, located at 1811 Briar Oaks Lane, which will be transformed into a jungle, complete with sights and sounds of a tropical forest.

Charity Ball Chairman, Suzanne Grant and Junior League President, Mary Beth Staine, along
with many other League volunteers have planned the exciting evenings, complete with dinner, dancing,
entertainment and highlights of League members’ efforts to build a better community. Guests will be
invited to take a walk on the wild side, as tropical flowers will adorn the tables, soaring palms will
transform the room, and lions, tigers and other surprises will greet guests. The evening festivities will
be highlighted by an original musical show featuring performances by many talented members of the
Junior League.

Mary Beth Staine, President of the Junior League, notes the importance of this year’s theme,
stating, “Over the past few years, Houston’s economy has resembled a frightening jungle. Many of the
organizations the League supports have suffered during these challenging economic times our
community has faced. The League’s resolve to continue to support these community programs is
stronger than ever, such as providing the SuperKids Mobile Pediatric Clinic to our city and to Texas
Children’s Hospital, offering a free Children’s Theater to Houston’s school children, organizing free
overnight adventures at the Children’s Museum to underprivileged girls, or teaching free CPR training
to area Houstonians. Together we can build a better community.”

The Junior League of Houston, Inc. contributes over $1.5 million in volunteer hours and
financial support annually to the Houston community. Proceeds from the Charity Ball are the primary
source of funding for the more than 35 Junior League community programs, which address a variety of
vital needs relating to children, literacy, healthcare and women in our community.
This annual event, celebrating its 56th year, is generously supported by League members and
others in the community who provide underwriting and sponsorship support, and purchase tickets and
tables.

Join us in our trek through the jungle, and by doing so, supporting many worthwhile
community organizations. Charity ball tickets are available at the following levels: $200 (Barrel of
Monkeys), $1,000 (Tower of Giraffes), $2,000 (Band of Gorillas), and $3,000 (Streak of Tigers).
