Junior League of Houston honored by HISD with the 2021 Golden Apple Volunteer Service

The Junior League of Houston was honored by HISD with the 2021 Golden Apple Volunteer Service award as part of our Volunteer in Public Schools celebration.

This virtual award was uniquely created to commemorate the Junior League’s efforts in helping to develop the Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) program and celebrate the 50th Anniversary. This award recognized the League’s efforts over the past five decades and virtually honored the Junior League of Houston’s commitment to HISD students and families

Volunteer in Public Schools was founded by a small group of committed volunteers from the Junior League of Houston. These women were focused on the opportunity they had to change lives and our city for the better. In their first few years they screened kindergarteners, planned mini-gyms and helped students with developmental delays catch up. Over the last 50 years, Junior League volunteers have made a significant impact in the lives of students.  Junior League volunteers have guided student learning, shaped future leaders, and expanded horizons for young people
